Some of you might have read Parker Palmer’s “The Courage To Teach” throughout your coursework. I did a review of that book in one of my classes and it raised a question about the difference between telling students the answer and having them discover it. Some teachers believe it is their responsibility to inform students of what “is” for fear they might not discover it accurately. Others go to the opposite extreme in which they refuse to make any objective claims.
My book review of CS Lewis’ “The Abolition of Man: How education develops man’s sense of morality” attempts to find the tao (or the middle way) between these two as a means or bringing some ‘human’ factor back into the education experience.
